Sinningia magnifica tuber

The plant does not live up its grandiose name, but Sinningia magnifica does have kind of an interesting tuber.  It's a ball with a knob on top from which the new shoots come. 

This shows a side view of the tuber. The red color of the underside is probably a camera quirk; I didn't do any color or brightness manipulation of this picture. Note that the roots come only from the lower half.
