Sinningia hirsuta

This picture shows a section through a tuber of Sinningia hirsuta.  The interior of the tuber, at least at this scale, looks featureless.  The growth points are in the depressed region at the top.  Note the brown layer along the bottom right of the tuber - this area died but was sealed off so the damage could not spread to the rest of the tuber.
