The Great Northeast Blackout

blackout

With all the other pictures, I have to guess at the date.  With these two pictures, however, no guess is needed.  The date was November 9, 1965.  That was when the lights went out.

My poor old Yashica struggled with the lack of illumination, so these photos are even fuzzier than usual.

This one shows Mike Scott and Bob Katz with their backs to us, helping direct traffic (no traffic lights).

On the corner across the street is "Miller Drug", and on the side of the building to the south of that (apparently across an alley) is an ad for "Baker Pharmacy".  What might be a police car (it's got a single-bubble flasher) is in front of Miller Drug.

A couple of driver's faces are visible in this photograph.  You have to wonder if they are still alive.

Henry Banach and Mike Scott.

I remember sitting in the chapter room when the lights began to flicker.  We watched the lights of the Prudential Building out the window flicker right along with those in the chapter room, and knew this was probably a big deal.  Only later did we find out just how big.
