Eucomis is a member of the hyacinth family. Characteristic are the dark-colored bracts at the top of the inflorescence. Where Chocolate Comes FromTheobroma cacao, the source of chocolate, used to be a member of the Sterculia family, but has now been moved to the Malvaceae, where it joins hibiscus, okra, and cotton. Flowers coming right out of the trunk is an amusing feature. Milk chocolate was (according to Mabberley's Plant-Book) a 19th-century invention "deriving from a glut of milk".
