I like ruellias, and was pleased that the garden had two of them. This one, Ruellia simplex, is a shrub. The garden has it growing staked, with several stems in the bundle. |

This is Ruellia chartacea, with red flowers (although the big red things appear to be bracts rather then flowers). In my yard, I have Ruellia makoyana, which is the only species of this genus that I have found so far which can withstand our occasional freezes. |
